Heard the story of Daisy Coleman yet? The 14-year old is making big headlines on the internet after a Kansas City Star article released details of a sexual encounter that alledged rape of the young girl by a high school senior.
If you’re unfamliar with the story, we’ll let you read the article for details – but what you might not have seen is Criminal Defense Attorney, Joseph DiBenedetto, defending the actions of the accused by actually starting a sentence with these words:
“I’m not saying that she deserved to be raped, but…”
Regardless of who you’re defending or in what approach you’re taking, these are words you should never mutter.
DiBenedetto clearly hasn’t learned much about being a man. He engages in victim-blaming and character assassination, while side-stepping the real issue.
When rape is in question, our society has a moral obligation to uncover every detail in an effort to find out the truth.
