Standing firm in your faith and showing a Godly love isn’t always as easy as the Sunday morning sermon makes it sound – even if you’re the pastor delivering the message.
Such was a lesson learned by a youth pastor named Erik Fitzgerald, who lost his wife, June, and unborn son in an auto accident.
Matthew Swatzell was the firefighter who had just worked 24 hours straight and was just two miles away from home when he fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line. The accident would send June into cardiac arrest and she was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Daughter, Faith, survived the crash with barely a scratch.
Despite the fact that Matthew and Erik were not allowed to talk for the two years following the accident, due to the ongoing investigation, they are now best friends and this story is a testimony to the power of love and forgiveness.
