How To Rise Above Your Potential

I love a video that inspires and brings to light the unique qualities that every human being has inside.

Your potential is defined as “having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future.”

Potential is the place I want to start but I want more. I want to be limitless in how I approach life and what I hope to achieve. Limitless – without bounds or limits.

As a young man, I was often paid the compliment of having great potential by a teacher or parent. “You’re going to be successful if you keep it up!” they would say of my work ethic. It made me smile. It was enough.

After turning 40, I realized that a nice paying job and security wasn’t enough. I had achieved what I originally believed to be my potential but I wanted to be limitless in my approach to life. I simply wanted more.

It was then that I started training for marathons and later on, triathlons. I started lifting weights for the first time in my life. I became a member of the Sunday morning worship band. I started investing in stocks for the first time ever. I vacationed to a third-world country and help build new homes. I jumped from a plane for the first time. I took up rock-climbing and stood on top of Red Rock Point in Arkansas – viewing the world from a completely unique (and quite beautiful) perspective for the first time in my life.

I searched for adventure and looked for the opportunity to create new experiences for my life.

Bruce Lee quoting his belief on being limitlessTo me, being limitless is exceeding every expectation I ever had for myself and then seeing how much space I can put in between those expectations and the life I live today. Every day, I want to push the envelope a little more – doing something a little bigger and take bigger risks in search of the bigger rewards.

I want to encourage my children that they should consider more than just graduating college, getting married and working a 9 to 5 job until retirement. Dream big because life is short. Get after it. Fight. It’s not about being the best – it’s about living life to the fullest. It’s accomplishing goals that you never before dreamed possible of yourself. If you fall down, get back up and keep moving forward.

Be limitless. Conquer mountains that you never thought you could climb and look back with pride.
